Capriccio Columbus

Celebrating the Diversity of Song

Capriccio Columbus is an adult chorus of 75 accomplished vocalists, delighting audiences with a vast array of music sung in beautiful, acoustically rich venues. Whether your taste runs toward classics, jazz, sacred works or the Great American Songbook, a Capriccio Columbus concert will remind you why you love music. In addition to the primary chorus, Capriccio includes the Capriccio Youth Choir and Molto Capriccio, a jazz and pop ensemble available to provide music for special occasions.

History

Capriccio Columbus has been presenting stirring performances by accomplished singers since 2007.

Beginning with its debut concert in January 2007, Capriccio Columbus has featured the talents of outstanding vocal musicians, a good number of whom have music degrees and lead choirs themselves. They are united by a commitment to bring sophisticated and entertaining choral music to Columbus audiences.

Under founding Artistic Director Larry Griffin and Associate Director Karrie Horton, Capriccio has prepared an expansive repertoire, ranging from sacred and classical masterpieces to fresh takes on great standards. The singers are frequently accompanied by professional instrumentalists, ranging from orchestral strings to jazz combos.

In addition to its own full seasons, Capriccio has performed in collaboration with the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the Central Ohio Symphony, and the Ohio State University Orchestra, Chorale and Symphonic Choir.

In 2011, the Capriccio Youth Choir was founded, offering young singers in grades 4 through 12 the opportunity to be part of the Capriccio experience. Beginning as a single ensemble of unchanged voices, the youth choir quickly grew to require two performing groups and, in 2014, added a third performing ensemble including changed voices in addition to launching its own concert series. Capriccio Youth Choir often still collaborates with Capriccio Columbus for select performances in addition to past engagements with the Central Ohio Symphony, the Ohio Wesleyan University Choral Arts Society and BalletMet Columbus.
