Capriccio Columbus is an adult chorus of 75 accomplished vocalists, delighting audiences with a vast array of music sung in beautiful, acoustically rich venues. Whether your taste runs toward classics, jazz, sacred works or the Great American Songbook, a Capriccio Columbus concert will remind you why you love music. In addition to the primary chorus, Capriccio includes the Capriccio Youth Choir and Molto Capriccio, a jazz and pop ensemble available to provide music for special occasions.

Our season opener -- featuring the music of Africa and African-American composers, singers, groups, and musicians!  You will delight to the songs of Gladys Knight and the Pips, Andre Thomas, Raymond Wise & Billy Strayhorn -- tunes such as "Take the A Train" and "Iza Ngomso" will take you on a musical journey through this rich cultural heritage of music!

This concert is generously supported by a grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council.

Foster.  A 1997 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, Mr. Foster's compositions are known for their balance of text, tune, and emotion.  Songs ranging from intense and thought-provoking to playful and fun are sure to engage the audience in a delightful journey, including a brand new work, just for Capriccio Columbus!

KARL JENKINS' REQUIEM

Join us in the beautiful sanctuary of Beechwold Christian Church to hear the stunning, dynamic and rarely-performed new setting of the ancient Requiem Mass.  This exciting work by Welsh-born composer, Karl Jenkins, combines the familiar Requiem texts with musical settings of Japanese haiku death poems.

Also included on the concert is the repertoire we will be performing in Costa Rica this summer, including Bob Chilcott's A Little Jazz Mass and Tom Porter's Sing, Laugh, Love.

MISA CUBANA

In collaboration with the Westerville Symphony and the combined choirs of Otterbein University, we are excited to present this new work by Cuban composer, Jose Maria Vitier.  Vitier has written music for film and television along with compositions for piano and chamber orchestras. His Misa Cubana is a stunning composition that combines Cuban folk and classical music to highlight the deep roots of the Virgin Mary in Cuban lore. Tickets are available through the Westerville Symphony's website.

A SPIRITED AFTERNOON WITH STACEY GIBBS

Internationally acclaimed composer/arranger Stacey V. Gibbs will lead Capriccio Columbus in singing his works, along with choirs from New Albany, Pickerington Central, Whitehall Yearling, and Northland High Schools as well as the Spiritus Ensemble of the Capriccio Youth Choir.  Mr. Gibbs is highly acclaimed for his expertise in bringing new vitality and excitement to the beloved traditional spirituals.  His arrangements have reached a wide range of choirs both internationally and in the U.S., where they have been featured in numerous festivals, celebrations, and competitions as well as at ACDA regional and National Conferences. Stacey resides in Detroit, Michigan.

Celebrate the music of Stacey V. Gibbs with us in the beautiful Jeanne B McCoy Performing Arts Center in New Albany, Ohio -- with a newly-commissioned piece written for Capriccio Columbus -- Honor, Honor, and nearly 200 singers on stage for the finale performance of Witness, you don't want to miss this concert!

Campus View Blvd.  Direct access to W. Campus View Blvd. is possible via 23-South, but northbound travelers cannot turn left onto W. Campus View Blvd.  The detour takes you east on Campus View from 23 and then a series of turns to get you back onto Campus View headed west to cross 23.

The centerpiece is John Rutter's "Feel the Spirit," the brilliant composer's cycle of seven spirituals, including When the Saints Go Marching InJoshua Fit the Battle of Jericho and Ev'ry Time I Feel the SpiritAlso featured will be Worthington Kilbourne High School graduate Josh Cook, who will solo on Adolphus Hailstork’s arrangement of Go Down Moses

It Sings in Me

Capriccio performs the dynamic and haunting melodies of Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms. Performed in Hebrew, the work will feature boy soprano Andrew Berkebile and will be accompanied by organ, harp and percussion.

The choir also will be performing Sid Robinovitch's Canciones por las Americas, sung in Spanish. The Capriccio Youth Choir will perform as well, with solos by graduating seniors.
