Capriccio Columbus will kick off its 15th season with a performance by Capriccio Jubilee Singers of Will Todd’s “Mass in Blue.”

Capriccio Jubilee Singers, an auditioned ensemble that is a subset of Capriccio Columbus, performs an Afrocentric repertoire of spirituals, jazz and gospel. The group will perform under the direction of Larry Griffin and be accompanied by Dr. Collin Richardson and a 10-piece jazz orchestra for this concert. St. Mary’s Catholic Church has planned a new Artist Series 2021-2022 featuring a variety of groups, including Capriccio Columbus, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Music Columbus and many others. This concert will be the first in that series.

Lyric soprano Keyona Willis will be a featured soloist for “Mass in Blue,” a contemporary setting of the Latin Mass in jazz style. In addition to that piece, Capriccio Jubilee Singers will also perform “I Got a Key,” arranged by Joni Jensen; “If I Can Help Somebody,” arranged by Andre Thomas; “Ride Up in the Chariot,” arranged by Joseph Joubert; “Lord, Make Me an Instrument,” arranged by M. Roger Holland II; and Duke Ellington’s “Ain’t But the One.”
